About the Author

As a child I constantly played with my cousins. They were the world to me. Like the two main characters in my book (Lisa and Lida), I thought with the same outfit and hairstyle, we were twins. I wrote Same Difference in memory of our innocence, our bond, and the challenges little girls face as they mature. Today as I raise my two young daughters,  I realize that the issues of beauty and identity begin to form very early. I hope Same Difference can be a vehicle to address these complicated issues and foster self-love and appreciation for all skin complexions and hair textures.

As for my formal training, I studied art at Spelman College and continued my education earning my master’s in art at New York University. I have exhibited my fine art in galleries nationally and abroad. You can view this work at www.artistcalida.com

I currently live in Los Angeles with my husband and children. Same Difference is my first book.
